Lucknow: A CBI court has sentenced the hired shooter convicted of murdering two chief medical officers of UP to concurrent life sentences.
Anand Prakash Tiwari was found guilty of shooting and killing Dr V K Arya in Lucknow in October 2010 and Dr B P Singh in Gomtinagar in April 2011.
Special judge Anurodh Mishra sentenced Tiwari to life imprisonment separately for the twin murders under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and the Arms Act, along with a fine of Rs 58,000.
Two other accused, Ram Krishna Verma and Vinod Sharma, were acquitted due to insufficient evidence and were asked to deposit sureties of Rs 1 lakh each. The murders were believed to be part of a cover-up for the National Rural Health Mission scam.
