Odisha: Jajpur medical college and hospital to be named after this Somavansi ruler – N.F Times



Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved a proposal to name Jajpur medical college and hospital after Jajati Keshari.

The people of Jajpur had earlier requested the state government to name the medical college after Jajati Keshari.

Jajati Keshari, the famous Somavansi ruler of ancient Odisha, occupies a special place in the hearts of the people Odisha. Construction of many important temples including the magnificent lingaraj temple and establishment of Abhinav Jajnagar, the modern-day jajpur, as the capital of his kingdom speaks volumes about his benevolence. Naming of Jajpur medical college after Jajati kesari is a humble tribute to this great historical personality who had enhanced the glory of Odisha, said an official.

The government medical college & hospital in Jajpur will be made functional from 2024.

The Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital, Jajpur, has been built at a cost of Rs 526.21 crore on 46 acres of land. The state government is in the process of applying before National Medical Commission (NMC) for issuance of Letter of Permission (LoP) for admission of 100 MBBS students at the newly-built medical college for the academic session 2024-25, added the official.

With the opening of Jajati Keshari Medical College and Hospital in Jajpur the total number of Government Medical Colleges and Hospitals in Odisha will go up to 12, producing 1,650 MBBS students per year.
