The National Safety Week celebrations commenced at SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on 4th March 2023 with observation of the 52nd National Safety Day. Mr. P K Satpathy, ED (P&A), RSP hoisted the Safety Flag in the ‘Shilpa Konark’ monument complex. Mr. P K Sahoo, ED (Projects), Mr. Somnath Tripathy, ED (MM), Dr. B K Hota, ED (M&HS), Mr. Debabrata Dutta, CGM In Charge (Services) and acting ED (Works) and many other Chief General Managers, Heads of Departments, Departmental Safety Officers, Members of Central Safety Committee other senior officers and a large number of employees of Works area attended the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Satpathy said, “The aim of Rourkela Steel Plant is Zero Harm for its employees, contractor workers and every other stakeholder. Safety is an art which needs to be practised consciously.” Citing the examples of women employees or women contract workers, who seldom gets injured during working, Mr. Satapathy advised all to be alert and more responsible like them.
Safety pledge was administered on the occasion in Odia, Hindi and English by Mr. Kartikeya Behera, CGM (CRM, SSM & PP), Mr. Ravi Ranjan, CGM (Design, Shops & Roll Shop), and Mr. Kausik Kumar Sengupta, CGM (Computer & Info.Tech).
Mr. Abakash Mallick, GM (Transport) and President, RSPEA and Mr.P.K.Behera, General Secretary, RSS and Member, Central Safety Committee also spoke on the occasion.
At the outset, Ms. Asha S Kartha, General Manager I/c (Safety Engg) delivered the welcome address and outlined the various initiatives being taken in RSP for promoting safety. Mr. Abakash Behera, GM (Safety) proposed a formal Vote of Thanks. Mr. Nilakantha Sethi, Asst. Manager (Safety) was the Master of Ceremony. Safety badges were pinned on the senior executives and employees.Similarly in the Projects Department Mr. P K Sahoo, ED (Projects) unfurled the safety flag. Safety pledge was taken on the occasion.
In separate programmes organised in various departments, safety pledge was taken by the employees along with senior officers.Safety quiz, elocution and song competitions will be held during the month for the employees. Competitions like Safety Posture, Safety quiz and will also be organised for contractual workers to generate greater awareness.
