Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed grief over the death of Odia Jawan Nilachal Patel in Manipur.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), CM Naveen wrote “I am saddened to learn about the martyrdom of Nilachal Patel, an officer of the Assam Rifles in Manipur. His sacrifices in the service of the nation will always be remembered. May the Jawan’s soul rest in peace. My condolences to the bereaved family members.”

According to reports, Assam Rifles’ Nilachal Patel, a resident of Baghapalli village of Bheden Block in Bargarh, in a road accident while on duty. A vehicle of Assam Rifles met with an accident during patrolling in strife-torn Manipur. Patel sustained grievous injuries in the mishap and succumed.
Nilanchal was the younger son of late Adi Patel and Gurubari Patel from Bargarh. The martyr’s widowed wife Rajeswari and their two daughters namely Rani and Ranu were staying in Manipur.
Patel’s death comes a day after the martyrdom of an Odia CRPF jawan in Jharkhand during a Naxal ambush. The deceased jawan, Sushant Kumar Khuntia, hailed from Ward no.4 of Anandapur municipality in Keonjhar district.
