Jaleswar: Some unidentified miscreants allegedly looted a branch of Punjab National Bank located at Daruha under Kamardha police limits in Balasore district, late yesterday night.
According to a police source, the miscreants have used a gas cutter and cut the main iron shutter of the bank’s branch and broken the locks. Later, they entered into its premises. The entire act could not be captured in CCTV installed near the main gate as the miscreants covered it with a cardboard box.
The amount of valuables and cash stolen has not been ascertained yet, the senior official said.
Acting on an FIR lodged by the bank authorities today forenoon, Kamardha police reached the spot and launched a probe. A detailed investigation was underway till the filing of this report.
“Police were informed when some employees of the bank noticed in the morning that the main shutter was broken open. A team led by Jaleswar SDPO and Kamardha police station IIC is conducting the probe. We are verifying the video footage of other CCTVs,” the senior official expressed.
Earlier, there used to operate a branch of United Bank on the same premises, which was looted in broad daylight in 2007. Looters involved in the crime had decamped with money and other valuables.
