Paradip: Eight fishermen faced life risk after a boat named ‘Basulei-2’ in which they were travelling capsized today in the sea mouth near Nehru Bangla fishing harbour in Paradip of Jagatsinghpur. Five of them were later rescued with the help of a helicopter and three others have gone missing.

A rescue operation is on but the missing fishermen have not been traced out, SP Rahul PR informed.

According to a source, the fishermen met with the mishap when they were on their way ashore from deep sea after fishing. As the shore had already got sand cast, their boat was stranded.

On being informed by some locals, Marine police reached the spot and launched the rescue operation. However, the rescue team has not yet succeeded in reaching the fishermen in danger.

“It has become very difficult for us after the fall of night,” a member of the team expressed.

The untoward incident occurred as the sea mouth was not being dug and sand removed on a regular basis despite repeated demands, some members of Paradip Sea Fish Producers’ Association alleged.

The rescue operation was underway till the time when this report was filed.
