Odisha: Postmortem report reveals cause of Rourkela Assistant Collector Sushmita Minz’s death – N.F Times

Bhubaneswar: The police today said they have received the postmortem report of Rourkela Assistant Collector Sushmita Minz who was found dead in a pond near a park in the Steel City on September 19.

The postmortem report has confirmed that Sushmita (35) had died due to drowning, police said.

Sushmita’s family members, however, alleged foul play in the incident and sought an impartial probe into it.

Sushmita, a native of Rambahal area of Rajgangpur in Sundargarh district, was appointed as the Assistant Collector of Rourkela around 18 months ago. She was looking after issues related to land acquisition, sources said.

Sushmita, an ORS officer, had gone to Sundargarh on September 16 to participate in a meeting of the district administration. However, she did not return to her home at Rajgangpur, sources added.

Her brother had lodged a missing complaint in this regard on September 18. Sushmita’s body was found floating in a pond near a sensory park in Rourkela at around 3 pm on September 19.

The Plantsite police in the Steel City recovered the body and sent it for postmortem after registering an unnatural death case in this regard.

Sushmita’s brother, however, alleged that her sister has been murdered by some influential people.

He alleged that Sundargarh Collector, Rourkela ADM, Gurundia Block Development Officer, Gurundia Child Development Project Officer and a woman Sub-Inspector of Odisha Police behind Sushmita’s death.

Sushmita’s brother also sought a CBI probe into the incident.
