Bhubaneswar: Armed robbers stormed the Sambalpur-Jammu Tawi Express train, attacking the passengers and looting their belongings in Jharkhand.
The incident took place at midnight between Latehar and Barwadih stations under the Dhanbad division of the East Central Railway (ECR).
According to reports, the robbers boarded the Sambalpur-Jammu Tawi Express at Latehar station and opened fire in the air in the S9 coach near Chhipadohar station to threaten the passengers.
Sources said that the robbers physically assaulted many passengers on the train.
At least seven passengers sustained minor injuries and the belongings of 13 passengers worth Rs 76,000 were looted.
The passengers created a ruckus over the incident after the train reached Daltonganj Railway Station.
Acting promptly, the Daltonganj sub-divisional magistrate Rajesh Kumar Shah reached the station in the wee hours and made arrangements to take the injured passengers to Medinirai Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
An FIR has been registered in connection with train robbery.
Reports said that the robbers looted eight mobile phones of them four were found active in the morning. The technical team is tracing the locations of those mobile phones.
