Minor tribal girl killed over suspected flower theft in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj – N.F Times


The 12-year-old girl, who was studying in Bhubaneswar, was found hanging by her parents at their neighbour’s house here. 


Udala: In a horrifying incident, a minor tribal girl was allegedly beaten to death and then hanged over alleged theft of a marigold plant in Udala block of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha on Wednesday night. The 12-year-old girl, who was studying in Bhubaneswar, was found hanging by her parents at their neighbour’s house here.

As per reports, Sita Hansda, a resident of Bhaluhuruda village in the block, had left her daughter at the neighbour’s place and gone to Bhubaneswar to get the girl’s certificate so that she could study in Udala. In the evening, she received a call from the neighbour that her daughter had stolen marigold plant from the backyard. To their horror, when Sita returned with her husband and went over to the neighbour’s place, she found her daughter’s body hanging . The body reportedly had injury marks too.

While the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, family members alleged that the girl was thrashed mercilessly to death and then hung by the irate neighbours who suspected her of having stolen marigold plant from the backyard.

Meanwhile, Udala police reached the place and registered a case. The body has been seized for postmortem and investigation is underway, official sources said.
