Bhubaneswar: A retired Marketing Inspector and his wife have been convicted by a Special Vigilance Court at Odisha’s Jeypore town over possession of disproportionate assets.
Prafulla Chandra Panigrahi, a former Marketing Inspector at Kashipur in Rayagada district, and his wife Renubala Panigrahi have been convicted by the Special Vigilance Judge at Jeypore in connection with a Vigilance case registered against them for possession of disproportionate assets.
The Panigrahi couple has been awarded two years of rigorous imprisonment each in connection with the case. This apart, the court also imposed a penalty of Rs 10,000 each on the convicted couple.
Non-payment of the penalties would invite further imprisonment for three months each for the retired Marketing Inspector and his wife.
The Vigilance department will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pensions of the retired Marketing Officer following his conviction in the Special Vigilance Court.
The Vigilance had earlier registered a case against the former Marketing Inspector and his wife under various Sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act-1988 and IPC.
