Bhubaneswar: Private buses across Odisha went off road as the owners’ association launched strike for indefinite period from today opposing the Location Accessible Multimodal Initiative (LAccMI) scheme of the state government.

Passengers and commuters had a harrowing experience amid festive season as around 14,000 private buses stopped services in the state.

Hundreds of passengers were seen waiting at bus stands across the state to go to their hometowns/ villagers in view of Durga Puja.

“We resorted to the strike as our discussion with the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) remained inconclusive. No written assurance was given to us. We apologise for the strike during puja. Our intention is not to cause inconvenience for the passengers,” said Debendra Sahu, Secretary, private bus owners’ association.

“The state government during a meeting on October 9 had assured us that buses under the scheme will operate only from panchayats to blocks and not to district headquarters. However, the government hasn’t kept its word,” he said.
