Bhubaneswar: With Very Severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Hamoon’ likely to weaken during next six hours, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over Odisha districts during next 24 hours, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre forecasted today.
‘Hamoon’ formed over northwest and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal moved east-northeastwards with a speed of 23 kmph during past six hours and lay centered at 1130 hours IST of today, the 24th October over the same region, near latitude 20.3°N and longitude 89.9°E, about 330 km east of Paradip (Odisha), 290 km east southeast of Digha (West Bengal), 190 km south of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 305 km southwest of Chittagong (Bangladesh), an IMD mid-day bulletin mentioned.
It is likely to weaken gradually into a Severe Cyclonic Storm during next six hours and to further weaken while moving northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around the evening of 25th October as a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 65 to 75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph.
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Boudh, Rayagada, Koraput and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha (Valid up to 0830 hrs IST of 25.10.2023).
Under the influence of the cyclonic system, squally wind speed reaching 40 kmph to 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely till 24th October morning and decrease thereafter, along and of Odisha Coast. Sea condition is to remain rough to very rough till 25th October.
Warning for Fishermen:
Fishermen are advised not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast and North adjoining central Bay of Bengal till 25th October.
