Digapahandi: Two persons were killed and 13 more sustained grievous injuries as a tractor in which they were travelling overturned near Tala Gurandi under Patrapur block in Ganjam, today.
The two deceased were identified as Jagannath Sabar and Dera Sabar from the district.
According to a source, the accident victims were supporters of BJP. They along with several others were on their way to gherao Chikiti block office as part of a political programme, when the fatal road mishap occurred. However, driver of the tractor lost control of the vehicle leading to the deaths.
“Two persons got trapped under the tractor and died on the spot,” an eyewitness expressed.
Some other persons who were present at the accident site rescued the 13 injured and sent them to a health facility in Kanchili for treatment. Condition of two of the injured persons is critical now, a doctor treating them expressed.
On being informed, a team of local police reached the spot and seized the bodies and launched a probe into the incident. Police have sent the bodies to hospital for post-mortem.
