Bhubaneswar: A former Executive Engineer of Rural Works (RW) Division in Nabarangpur district of Odisha and his wife have been convicted in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.
Simadri Nayak, retired Executive Engineer of RW Division at Umarkote in Nabarangpur, and his wife Laxmi Nayak have been convicted by a special Vigilance court in Odisha capital here for possessing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 38,40,769.
The former Executive Engineer has been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment in connection with the case. Besides, the court slapped a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on him. Non-payment of the penalty amount would invite imprisonment for additional six months for the retired officer.
The former Executive Engineer’s wife has been sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for one year in the DA case. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 2 lakh on her. She would undergo imprisonment for additional three months for non-payment of the penalty amount.
Following the conviction of the retired Executive Engineer, the Vigilance department will move the competent authority for stoppage of his pension, said an official.
