Bhubaneswar: Man fakes son’s kidnap to get rid of live-in partner; 4 arrested – N.F Times

Bhubaneswar: In a highly shocking incident, a man allegedly faked his 11-month-old son’s abduction in Odisha capital in order to get rid of his live-in partner, police said today.

Interestingly, the man had yesterday approached the police alleging that his son was kidnapped from Patia Station Bazaar in the city.

While questioning the complainant, identified as Subrat Sethi of Marthapur in Dhenkanal, the cops became suspicious over his misleading statements. After further grilling by the police, he confessed to his crime, said Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh while addressing a press conference.

“Subrat has been staying in Bhubaneswar with Shantilata Moharana of Andharua area. The two have an 11-month-old son. However, the woman had married one Bishnu Prusty around 10 years ago. Before two years, she left Bishnu over dispute between them and started residing with Subrat,” the police official said.

“On the other hand, a dispute prevailed between Shantilata and Subrat during the last two months, for which he wanted the woman to return to her husband. Subsequently, Subrat hatched a plan with Bishnu to give the baby to the latter’s associate Sarat Mohanty. The motive behind the move was to benefit Sarat as he was childless while the disappearance of the baby would facilitate Subrat to pressurize Shantilata to return to her husband Bishnu,” the DCP said.

Acting on Subrat’s statement, cops rescued the baby from Sarat. Police have arrested Subrat, Bishnu, Sarat and Braj Kishore Nath, who arranged a vehicle for transporting the child, said Singh.

The Mancheswar police have registered a case under relevant Sections of the IPC and started investigation into the matter.
