IMD completes 150 years; app launched for panchayat-level weather forecast in Odia – N.F Times

Bhubaneswar: India Meteorological Department (IMD) today launched a mobile app titled ‘Panchayat Mausam Seva’ to mark its completion of 150 years. The app will provide weather-related information to people of the country in several Indian languages including Odia.

“With the launch of a unified mobile app, panchayat-level forecast has now become possible. People with a single touch can check weather forecasts 24×7 on their mobile phones. The app will benefit people, particularly farmers in panchayats, in taking necessary steps to save their crops from rain or cyclone,” meteorologist Sanjeev Dwibedy said.

The IMD aims to disseminate weather-related information in 12 languages, the scientist added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today hailed IMD’s exceptional service to our nation.

Taking to his personal ‘X’ handle, the Prime Minister wrote, “Today we mark 150 years of the India Meteorological Department’s exceptional service to our nation. From pioneering weather forecasting to advancing climate research, IMD has been instrumental in safeguarding lives and enhancing our understanding of the environment.”
