Basta: A man was killed on the spot as a tusker attacked him today morning at Khunta village under Raibania police limits in Balasore district.
The deceased was identified as Debendra Giri, who belonged to the village.
According to a police source, Debendra had been to his kitchen garden to pluck vegetables when the pachyderm attacked him leading to his untimely death. He was trampled to death.
Debendra’s family searched for him as he did not return back home for quite a long time. However, they spotted him while lying on the ground in a pool of blood.
On being informed, a team of forest personnel drove away the pachyderm and recovered the body of Debendra. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him ‘dead’.
In another incident today, two persons sustained grievous injuries after being attacked by the jumbo.
The injured duo was identified as Samarai Tudu and Gurubari Tudu from another village of the district.
Worth mentioning, a herd of jumbos earlier came from Similipal forest. The elephant that got separated from the herd has been roaming in nearby areas of Ambatumba forest for the last few days.
