Baliguda: A local court in Kandhamal district awarded eight years of rigorous imprisonment to a woman for killing her two minor children and suicide attempt.
Hearing the verdict, Additional District Judge Dilip Kumar Biswal at Baliguda Sessions Court slapped the woman convict with Rs 2,000 fine amount and sentenced her husband to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment and a Rs 20,000 fine for torturing her and abetment to suicide.
In 2021, M Bhagyalaxmi of Baliguda area in Kandhamal district attempted suicide after throwing her 9-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter into a well out of resentment towards her husband M Rajesh over his extra-marital affair. The Raikia fire personnel rescued the two minor children from the well. They immediately took them to a nearby hospital where the two children were declared dead.
