Warder allegedly beaten by havildar in Kuchinda sub-jail in Odisha’s Sambalpur, critical – N.F Times

Kuchinda: A warder was allegedly attacked today by a havildar in Kuchinda sub-jail in Sambalpur district. The havildar was not doing his duties and the warder was opposed to it, the latter claimed.

The warder has been identified as Abhilash Rath, who hails from Padampur in Bargarh district.

“I have been working in the sub-jail for nearly the last three years. As usual, today I joined my duties at around 1.30 PM but found that my name was not there in the duty allocation register kept at the main gate. I had an altercation over this with a havildar named Satya Ranjan Mohanty, who has not been working for the last two years. He usually moves outside the office during duty hours. Mohanty beat me with an iron rod and then pushed me against a door, as a result, I fell on the ground and had an injury on my head,” the warder said mediapersons.

“I was objecting to Mohanty not doing his official duties for about the last two years. The havildar said to me that he beat me as per an instruction of the jailer. I will lodge an FIR in this connection seeking justice. I am waiting for my parents to reach here from Padampur,” warder Rath expressed.

However, views of the jail authorities in this regard could not be obtained despite attempts.
