1 dead after speeding Hyva truck hits scooter in Odisha’s Angul; irate locals block road – N.F Times



Angul: A man was killed on the spot as a scooter on which he was travelling was hit by a speeding and ash-laden Hyva truck today afternoon at around 2.30 pm near FCI godown at Turanga locality on the national highway under Town police limits in Angul district.

The deceased man was identified as Dushmanta Kumar Panda, who was a businessman. He belonged to the Dhenkanal district and was running a spare parts retail outlet.

According to a source, Dushmanta was on his way to a bus stand in the town after purchasing some spare parts for his retail outlet when he met with a fatal accident. He was run over by the truck and was dragged up to quite a long distance along with his vehicle leading to his death.

Tension erupted at the accident site following the road mishap and hundreds of irate locals staged a roadblock in protest. Incensed locals thrashed some policemen who had come to the spot to convince the protestors. Town police station IIC Dhiresh Das and sub-inspector (SI) Asish Swain were injured in the incident, the source expressed.

Town police seized the body of Dushmanta and sent it to a nearby hospital for post-mortem. Police have launched a probe into the road mishap, which is underway.
