Odisha: Traffic advisory for state-level Republic Day parade in Bhubaneswar; check details – N.F Times



Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police-Bhubaneswar today issued a traffic advisory for the upcoming state-level Republic Day parade, which will be held on January 26 at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here.

A huge congregation is expected which may cause severe traffic congestion around Mahatma Gandhi Marg as people from and outside the State Capital are likely to throng the city to witness the parade. VIPs and other dignitaries may also attend the function. Moreover, the rehearsal parade is to be held on January 22 and January 23 from 2.00 PM to 5.30 PM and on January 24 from 7.00 AM to 10.30 AM at Mahatma Gandhi Marg, an official notification issued by the police in this regard mentioned.

Restrictions clamped in the interest of public safety, traffic and convenience:

  1. No heavy vehicle shall be allowed to ply on Janpath from Ram Mandir to Rajmahal and vice versa from 6.30 AM onwards till the parade is over. The light vehicles shall be allowed to ply on Janpath but from Master Canteen Square no vehicle shall be allowed to ply on Mahatma Gandhi Marg from 6.30 AM onwards till the parade is over.
  2. No vehicle shall be allowed to come towards Rabindra Mandap from Housing Board crossing side from 6.30 AM onwards on January 26 and shall be diverted at Keshari Talkies crossing towards the left side lane.
  3. No vehicle shall be allowed to move towards PMG Square from AG Square side from 6.30 AM onwards on January 26 and shall be diverted from Jaydev Bhawan crossing towards IDCOL auditorium side.
  4. Vehicles coming from 120 Infantry Battalion crossing shall be diverted towards Unit 4 at MLA Colony crossing from 6.30 AM onwards on January 26.
  5. All the lanes touching Mahatma Gandhi Marg shall be scaled and only pedestrians shall be allowed to go to Mahatma Gandhi Marg.
  6. The aforesaid restrictions on traffic movement shall also be imposed during the Rehearsal Parade on January 22 and January 23 from 2.00 PM to 5.30 PM and on January 24 from 7.00 AM to 10.30 AM.
  7. Selling gas balloons is strictly prohibited in the area between PMG Square and Master Canteen Square on January 26 from 6.30 AM till the parade is over.
  8. The following places are designated as ‘Parking Places’ during the parade hours.
  9. The VVIPs shall come on Janpath up to Master Canteen from where they shall move to the designated parking space as marked in the diagram (mentioned below).

Temporary parking places designated by Commissionerate Police are:

BDA Bus Stand near Railway Station, open space in front of Congress Bhawan, open space in front of IDCOL Auditorium, open space in front of Jaydev Bhawan, open space in front of SBI in Unit-III, open space inside Rabindra Mandap and Unit-II Girls’ High School Ground.

By the virtue of the power conferred U/s-28 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003 (Odisha Act 8 of 2007) and in pursuance of Regulation 36 & 37 of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic and Public Order) Regulations, 2008, Twin City Commissioner of Police Saumyendra Priyadarshi imposed these restrictions on traffic movement around Mahatma Gandhi Marg for the state level parade.
