Odisha doctor donates her house to women’s college – N.F Times

Bhubaneswar: Narayani Panda, a well-known doctor and social activist in Odisha’s Sambalpur, has donated her house to a women’s college.

Panda, a noted gynaecologist, has donated her two-storey house at Bhutapada in Sambalpur to the government women’s college in the western Odisha city.

“I had planned to set up a school at our residential building. However, I could not do that due to certain difficulties. I have donated the building to Government Women’s College, Sambalpur for setting up of a hostel for students,” said Panda.

According to Panda, the women’s college does not have adequate hostel facilities for students. As a result, the students of the college are staying in rented accommodations at various localities of Sambalpur city, she added.

“My house has enough facility for establishment of a women’s hostel. The girls of the college can stay here without any difficulty. The college authorities can now set up the hostel at the first floor of the building. They will take over the entire building after my death,” Panda said.

It is worth mentioning here that Panda had donated Rs 30 lakh to her alma mater Gangadhar Meher University (GMU) in Sambalpur under the ‘Mo College Abhiyan’ of the state government in 2021. Subsequently, the state government released a matching grant of Rs 60 lakh to GMU under the scheme. The funds were utilized for setting up of a Centre for IT Skills at the varsity.
