Sunapur beach in Odisha’s Ganjam gets International Blue Flag certification – N.F Times

Bhubaneswar: The Sunapur beach in Odisha’s Ganjam district has received the prestigious International Blue Flag certification from Foundation for Environmental Education.

With this, Sunapur beach became the second one from Odisha to bag the certification as Puri beach had won the award in 2020.

The iconic ‘Blue Flag’ is one of the world’s most recognized voluntary awards for beaches, marinas, and sustainable tourism boats. In order to qualify for the ‘Blue Flag’, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained.

Central to the ideals of the Blue Flag programme is the aim of connecting the public with their surroundings and encouraging them to learn more about their environment. As such, environmental education activities must be offered and promoted in addition to a permanent display of information relevant to the site in terms of biodiversity, ecosystems and environmental phenomena.

Toilets, watch towers and solar lighting system are some of the amenities available at Blue Flag beaches.
