Bhubaneswar: A 29-year-old man allegedly took his own life on the outskirts of Odisha capital after accusing Lingaraj police station SI Supriya Priyadarshini of harassing him.
The deceased was identified as Dibyajyoti Sahu. He was a resident of Uttara under Pipili police limits.
He shared a video message over the alleged harassment before killing himself at his residence on January 30 night.
Initially, Pipili police registered a case of unnatural death. However, the video went viral couple of days ago, following which an abetment of suicide case was filed.
The video featured the deceased accusing the SI of demanding Rs 50,000 to resolve a case registered against him based on his wife’s complaint. In the clip, he claimed that his wife had filed a false complaint after he refused to loan money to her brother. The man also expressed distress as his wife had recently taken their four-year-old son away due to personal differences.
On January 21, a case was registered against him and his family members based on his wife’s complaint of torture and dowry demands. He had appeared before the Lingaraj police on January 24 and was let off after being served a notice, a police official said.
A suicide note was recovered from the deceased’s house, which contains claims similar to that of the video. As part of the ongoing investigation, the SI will be questioned, an officer of Pipili police station said.
