Koraput: A girl student was found hanging inside a hostel room of the Central University of Odisha at Sunabeda in the Koraput district.
The deceased student has been identified as Sandhyarani Das, a first-year student of the Mathematics Department and a native of Kendrapara district.
According to reports, Sandhyarani dined with her classmates at the hostel on Friday night and went to her room to sleep at around 1 am. As she was to attend a university sports event today, her classmates called her for the programme. However, she did not receive the phone calls.
As she did not answer anyone’s call, her friends went to her room, which was closed from inside. After repeated knocks when no response came, the students informed the hostel superintendent and varsity authorities.
The university authorities called up the police about the incident. The Sunabeda police reached the hostel, opened the door, and found the girl student hanging from a ceiling fan inside the room.
Taking immediate action, the police closed the main entrance of the university not allowing the students to go out and come in to the premises.
Further course of action will be taken after the deceased’s family reach the university.
