Bhubaneswar: Over 2,500 aspirants have applied online for Congress party tickets ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections in Odisha.
“Over 2,500 aspirants have submitted their applications online for Congress tickets for 147 Assembly seats in Odisha ahead of the 2024 polls,” said Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak today.
The Congress party had earlier asked the aspirants to submit their applications online as part of its efforts to maintain utmost transparency in the selection of candidates for 147 Assembly seats in Odisha.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge for Odisha Ajoy Kumar and the OPCC president will personally meet the aspirants and hold through discussions on the applications for each and every constituency before sending the list to the party’s central leadership, said a source.
“More weightage will be given to winnability factor during the distribution of Congress tickets in Odisha,” Pattanayak said.
Notably, the Congress party had sought online applications from aspirants for party tickets in the wake of allegations that some people were seeking money for the same in a few states.
The AICC has formed five screening committees to recommend candidates for the 2024 elections.
