Leopard numbers drop significantly in Odisha: MoEF Report – N.F Times



Bhubaneswar: The leopard population in Odisha has come down significantly as per a report released by the Centre yesterday.

The report released by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has pegged the leopard population in Odisha at 568 in 2022. The number has come down by 192 in four years as the state had altogether 760 leopards in 2018, said the report.

According to the report, the leopard population in India has gone up to 13,874 in 2022 from 12,852 in 2018. The number has increased by around 1,000 in four years.

As per the report, Madhya Pradesh had the highest number of 3,907 leopards in 2022, followed by Maharashtra (1,985), Karnataka (1,879) and Tamil Nadu (1,070).
