WIMBLEDON 2024: Italian JASMINE PAOLINI INTO ROUND 4

Italian Jasmine Paolini defeated former U.S. Open champion Bianca Andreescu 7-6(4), 6-1 at Wimbledon on Friday, reaching the fourth round for the first time.

The French Open runner-up, who also made it to the last 16 at the Australian Open this season, became the first Italian woman to reach the second week at the first three Grand Slams in a single year.

Paolini, having previously defeated 2019 U.S. Open winner Andreescu at the Roland Garros third round last month, where the Canadian was coming off a nine-month injury layoff, charmed the Court One audience and expressed her enjoyment as a crowd favourite.

After her semifinal run at Eastbourne, which showcased her grass-court skills before Wimbledon, Paolini is set to play against 12th seed Madison Keys, who defeated 18th seed Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-3.
