Fire Breaks Out at Marketplace in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar, Restaurant Gutted – N.F Times


New Delhi: A school uniform outlet and a restaurant were completely gutted when a major fire erupted at a marketplace in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar on Sunday night.

The blaze, which broke out at around 11:30 pm on Sunday, spread over the commercial complex situated in Pocket-B of Mayur Vihar Phase-II.

At least 25 fire tenders were rushed to the spot by the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) department as soon as they received the information.

The firefighting operation was immediately launched and went on till Monday morning as visuals showed flames still raging at one of the shops at the break of dawn.

The DFS personnel rescued a 50-year-old man identified as Praveen Pandey. However, a firefighter was injured during the operation after he fell from the ladder while trying to douse the fire. He was rushed to a nearby hospital.

“Delhi Fire Service received the call at 11:40 pm. When the fire tenders reached the spot, the fire had spread to all three floors of the building. It spread as there was no proper ventilation. Around 25-30 shops are in the complex and 12-15 shops were affected. The blaze is under control as of now”, SK Dua, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Delhi Fire Service said.

The cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an investigation has been launched into the incident, he added.
