The Palestinian Embassy on Tuesday expressed gratitude to India for releasing the first tranche of USD 25 lakh to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) as part of its annual contribution of USD 50 lakh for 2024-2025.

The embassy thanked the Indian Government for this support and noted India’s pledge during the UNRWA conference in New York to provide medicines upon request, in addition to financial assistance.

This assistance is seen as a crucial step in supporting UNRWA amidst challenges from the Israeli government. The embassy emphasized the importance of this aid in various fields, especially given the urgent needs arising from the Israeli war on Gaza.

The embassy hopes that India, through its international relationships and positions in key political and economic groups, will help preserve and strengthen UNRWA’s role, established in 1949, against attempts to replace it.

For Palestinians, UNRWA’s importance extends beyond services, as it is linked to their rights as refugees and their hope to return to their homes.
