New Delhi: The Law Ministry declared on Friday that ten additional judges have been appointed to permanent posts, including three from the Delhi High Court.
The ministry’s notifications also confirmed the elevation of seven additional judges from the Bombay High Court to permanent status, along with the promotion of three additional judges at the Delhi High Court. Justices Girish Katpalia, Manoj Jain, and Dharmesh Sharma have been appointed as permanent judges of the Delhi High Court.
This announcement is in line with a recent recommendation from the Supreme Court Collegium. On March 12, the Collegium of the Delhi High Court unanimously recommended these additional judges for permanent positions.
As per the Memorandum of Procedure, Supreme Court judges acquainted with the Delhi High Court conducted consultations to assess the suitability of these judges for permanent roles. A committee established by the Chief Justice of India, following the Supreme Court Collegium’s resolution from October 26, 2017, appraised and deemed the quality of their judgments as ‘good.’
The Collegium examined all pertinent materials and remarks from the Department of Justice. Following an exhaustive evaluation, it was determined that Justices Girish Katpalia, Manoj Jain, and Dharmesh Sharma are eminently suitable for permanent judgeships.
Therefore, the Collegium has endorsed the appointment of these judges to address the existing vacancies at the Delhi High Court.
