Boudh: As many as forty passengers sustained injuries when a bus fell off a bridge on National Highway 57 in Boudh district late on Saturday night.
The mishap occurred while the bus was travelling from Bhubaneswar to Malkangiri. The bus reportedly plunged 20 feet off the Sunakhai bridge after losing control.
Three of the injured passengers were transferred to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Burla due to deteriorating conditions.
The fire department and police were notified and immediately responded to the scene. The injured were evacuated and taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Boudh. According to reports, out of the injured, 17 are in critical condition, and three have been moved to Burla.
Some passengers have blamed the accident on the alleged intoxication of the driver and his assistant. In response, the police have taken two individuals into custody and have initiated an investigation.
