Militants Destroyed Girls’ School in Pakistan – N.F Times

Unidentified militants bombed a government girls’ school in the tribal district of Pakistan’s volatile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday, according to officials.

The explosion demolished seven rooms of the school, which had 255 girls enrolled. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the explosion.

The Govt Girls Middle School in the North Waziristan tribal district, which borders Afghanistan, was targeted by the militants on the night between Sunday and Monday, stated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai.

Minister Tarakai assured that the school would be operational again soon, emphasizing that “such cowardly acts cannot weaken our commitment to promoting education in tribal areas. Providing education is the highest priority for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.”

The Taliban and related groups oppose female education, deeming it un-Islamic. Earlier in May, a similar attack occurred when a private girls’ school was destroyed by unidentified militants in the Tehsil Shewa area of the North Waziristan district.
