Paris: India’s participation at the Paris 2024 Olympics begins a day before the Opening Ceremony with six of the nation’s athletes taking part in the women’s and men’s archery qualification round.

For the first time since the London 2012 Olympics, Indian archers have secured all six available Olympic quotas.

Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, and Bhajan Kaur will represent India in the women’s ranking round, followed by the men’s round featuring veteran Tarundeep Rai, Pravin Jadhav, and Dhiraj Bommadevara later in the day.

More than 24 hours remain before we hear the traditional words spoken by the head of state of the host nation in various languages to officially open the Olympics. However, the Games typically start a couple of days before the opening ceremony.

India’s participation begins today, even though the opening ceremony is tomorrow, with the individual ranking rounds for archery being the sole event. This marks the first occasion since London 2012 that India has filled its full quota of six archers at the Olympics.

The team includes veteran Tarundeep Rai and the esteemed Deepika Kumari, both making their fourth Olympic appearance. Pravin Jadhav is participating in his second Olympics, while Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and Dhiraj Bommadevara make their Olympic debut. More updates to follow.
