New Delhi: Several areas in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday morning, resulting in waterlogging in numerous locations.
Localities such as Nauroji Nagar, Bhikaji Cama Place, Shanti Path, Ashram, Anand Vihar, and the Malai Mandir area in Delhi, along with various spots in Noida, witnessed a new bout of rain early in the day.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert for the national capital, predicting that the rains will persist until July 28.
Following the downpour on Friday morning, regions like Bhikaji Cama Place, Motibagh Ring Road, Parliament Street, and Ashoka Road reported significant waterlogging, leading to traffic congestion. By 6:30 am on Friday, the Delhi University area had recorded 89.5 mm of rain, while the IGNOU area had 34.5 mm.
Additionally, slow traffic movement was observed due to a dense cloud cover over Delhi and its adjoining areas, which reduced visibility in certain parts of the city. In response to the intense showers, the Delhi Traffic Police released a traffic advisory.
Vehicles from R/A Kamla Market on Minto Road are being rerouted onto DDU Marg towards Connaught Place via Ranjeet Singh Flyover. The advisory urges the general public and motorists to remain patient, adhere to traffic regulations and road discipline, and follow the instructions of traffic officers stationed at all intersections.
The weather office also noted that light rain or drizzle is expected in Delhi areas such as Narela, Alipur, Badili, Pitampura, Punjabi Bagh, Seelampur, Shahadra, Vivek Vihar, Red Fort, President House, Rajiv Chowk, ITO, India Gate, Lodi Road, RK Puram, Defence Colony, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, and IGNOU.
