New Delhi: Two teams from the Indian Armed Forces planted India’s tri-colour atop Mount Elbrus, Europe’s tallest peak, during the third ‘Climb for Peace’ event organized by the International Military Sports Council (CISM).

Lieutenant Colonel Manoj Joshi led a six-member Tri-Services team to the summit of the 5,642-meter Russian mountain on Thursday.

The team featured Navy mountaineer Shristi Thakur, the only woman in the group. An additional team consisted of three Army members.

Following the climb, the Indian Navy’s Spokesperson celebrated the tri-service team’s feat as “a proud moment for India” in a post X.

The ‘Climb for Peace’ event saw participation from thirteen nations, including Russia, China, and Brazil, as reported by Russia’s Defence Ministry.

Mount Elbrus, also the world’s tenth highest peak, is situated in the Russian Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, in the southern part of Russia.
