Low Pressure over North BoB: Odisha SRC Asks 13 Dist Collectors for Preparedness – N.F Times


Bhubaneswar: In view of the low pressure over the North Bay of Bengal, the Odisha Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has directed the Collectors of 13 districts to take all necessary preparedness measures beforehand to mitigate the effects.

SRC Satyabrata Sahu has written to the Collectors of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Angul districts.

Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal & adjoining Bangladesh, a low-pressure area has formed over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Coastal areas of Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal. Associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height. It is likely to move west-west wards across Gangetic West Bengal & Jharkhand during the next 2 days. Under its impact, there may be heavy rain and flood-like situations in north Odisha, the letter reads.

The Odisha SRC has requested the Collectors to review the preparedness at the district level, take appropriate action and inform the situation of the district from time to time.

According to the weather update, a low-pressure area over the northern Bay of Bengal and the adjacent coastal regions of Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal.  A cyclonic circulation reaching up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, which tilts southwestwards with height, is likely to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand in the next two days.
