First Time in 147 Years: Zimbabwe’s Clive Madande Registers Unwanted Record | Pragativadi | Odisha News, Breaking News Odisha, Latest Odisha News – N.F Times

New Delhi: Zimbabwe’s wicketkeeper Clive Madande set an unprecedented and unwanted record by conceding 42 byes in a Test innings against Ireland on Friday.

The 24-year-old Madande had a challenging debut at Stormont, being dismissed for a duck on the first day of the test.

The 42 byes contributed to Ireland’s 47-run partnership for the 10th wicket between Andy McBrine and Matthew Humphreys, bringing the hosts’ first innings total to 250, compared to Zimbabwe’s 210. Consequently, the hosts now have a 40-run lead over the visitors.

The byes were not solely Madande’s fault, as he contended with bowlers delivering several balls down the leg side and experiencing late swings after passing the bat.

Madande surpassed the record set by England’s Les Ames, considered one of cricket’s finest wicketkeepers, who conceded 37 byes in Australia’s total of 327 during a Test at The Oval in 1934. This marked the first instance of a wicketkeeper conceding over 40 byes in Test cricket.
