Shimla: One person was killed and at least 28 others are missing following cloudburst events in Himachal Pradesh, which have triggered an extensive search and rescue effort by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
A cloudburst struck late last night in the Samej Khad region of Rampur in the Shimla district, resulting in sudden and intense flooding. Following the event, 19 individuals were reported missing, according to Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap.
Rescue operations have commenced, involving teams from the National Disaster Response Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, local police, and home guards. Drones are being utilized to aid in the search for the missing individuals, added Kashyap.
In the Thaltukhod area of the Padhar subdivision in the Mandi district, another cloudburst was reported. Nine individuals are missing, and one body has been found, stated Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan.
The severe flooding has also caused damage to numerous homes. Teams from the district administration and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been mobilized to the impacted region.
Scary footage has emerged from different areas of Himachal Pradesh, depicting the engorged Beas River as it rushes through valleys and towns.
