Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy informed the Assembly on Monday that the deferral of Pondicherry University’s first-year MBBS examination was due to accreditation issues, not a question paper leak.
In response to the Leader of Opposition R. Siva, Rangasamy stated, “The affiliation was delayed because the NMC took time to grant recognition to certain colleges. The university will finalize the process and declare a new date for the exam, which is tentatively set for August 14.”
The university released a statement explaining that the affiliation was put on hold following the NMC’s show-cause notice to some colleges for faculty shortages and other shortcomings in January. After the colleges addressed these issues, the NMC imposed fines on four colleges and reinstated recognition for the MBBS program in June.
Once the colleges paid the fines, the university proceeded with the affiliation and student registration for the examination. The exam, initially planned for August 5, has been postponed. The new schedule will be released shortly.
