Jajpur: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Saturday conducted raids at the properties linked to Binay Bhusan Tripathy, Assistant Commissioner CT & GST Enforcement Unit in Jajpur district on the allegation of siphoning off government money to the tune of Rs 5.85 lakh.
Simultaneous raids are being carried out on allegations of embezzling government funds amounting to Rs 5.85 lakh. Vigilance conducted a verification on the claims of financial loss inflicted by Tripathy, who allegedly failed to collect taxes and penalties from a scrap goods vehicle.
Initial verification indicated that Tripathy while serving as the Assistant Commissioner of CT & GST Enforcement Unit in Jajpur, intercepted a vehicle carrying approximately 22,240 kgs of scrap valued at Rs 8,89,600.
Tripathy is accused of contacting the goods’ owner, demanding a deposit of Rs 3,20,000 in the cash ledger for taxes, and an additional Rs 2,50,000 as illegal gratification for the release of the vehicle and its contents. When his bribe demands were not met, Tripathy purportedly sold the scrap to another dealer, collected the tax, and embezzled the remaining amount of Rs 5,85,356.
Vigilance officials have released a statement claiming that Tripathy has been involved in collecting substantial bribes from various transporters and suppliers by evading taxes.
