Jajpur, Pratap Prusty : The Parvati Giri Lift irrigation Project scheme which was launched by the Department of Water resources, Government of Odisha in the year 2011-12 to fulfill the water demand of crops that do not have irrigation connectivity has faced major setback due to negligence and corruption by the agency deals with in Bari Block of Jajpur. Information reveals that the maintenance and construction of the newly undergoing PGLI(Parvati Giri Lift Irrigation)project in Bari Block is conducted under the supervision of L&T Co. The project deals with the establishment of lift irrigation connection in various panchayats under Bari Block in addition with the other maintenance works like spreading of pipe lines, installation of street lights at the project sites etc. The reality in ground level can be noticed as a clear violation of project norms where the damaged pipes are thrown unattended, street lights are even not working, rubber tubes are wrapped at the damaged iron pipes, leaked water flowing is let unchecked and in this connection, no alternatives have attempted to be taken. Moreover, allegation has also made pertaining with the contractual workers are being exploited by engaging them more than 12 hours in a shift, their salary is not paid to them timely, less workers are employed against more works. The kind of activities exemplify that the agency manipulates its superiority by monopolizing itself. The Parvati irrigation Project 1.0 and 2.0 while shows the Government’s enthusiasm for welfare of farmers by providing uninterrupted water supply by spending crores, the monopoly of the agency clearly indicates the agency might have a safe heaven that let it works without heeding allegation. At this juncture, the action initiation by the government is only left to witness to understand the gravity of this report.
