Budapest: The Indian teams continued their winning streak at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, securing victories in all three matches on Friday.
The men’s team triumphed over Hungary-B with a score of 3.5-0.5, while the women’s team emerged victorious against Switzerland with a score of 3-1.
Dronavalli Harika experienced the first loss for India in the tournament, falling to Alexandra Kosteniuk, a former representative of Russia, on the top board.
The rest of the Indian women’s team lived up to their top-seeded reputation, with R. Vaishali defeating Ghazal Hakimifard, Divya Deshmukh besting Sofiia Hryzlova, and Vantika Agrawal outplaying Mariia Manko.
In the open section, India’s perfect record was slightly marred by the host nation’s second team. Despite winning all eight games in the first two days, the second-seeded Indian team conceded a draw when Vidit Gujrathi was held by Gabor Papp, who has an Elo rating 170 points lower.
Nevertheless, the young Indian trio of D. Gukesh, R. Praggnanandhaa, and Arjun Erigaisi secured wins against their opponents Adam Kozak, Tamas Banusz, and Peter Prohaszka, respectively.
