Diljit Dosanjh Challenges Anchor’s ‘Alcohol Song’ Criticism with ‘Fake News’ Counter – N.F Times

Lucknow: During his Dil-Luminati India Tour concert in Lucknow, actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding his songs and their alleged promotion of alcohol. Responding to a news anchor’s challenge to create hit songs without referencing alcohol, Dosanjh labeled the criticism as “fake news.”

In a video posted on his X account, Dosanjh highlighted that many of his popular songs, such as “Born To Shine,” “Kinni Kinni,” “GOAT,” “Naina,” and “Lover,” do not mention alcohol, countering the anchor’s claims. He emphasized that censorship should be applied uniformly across all media, including Indian cinema, where alcohol references are common.

Dosanjh also pointed out the selective outrage against singers, stating, “Everyone thinks singers are soft targets, but that’s not the case.” He further defended his artistic integrity, noting that his work has received National Film Awards and is not “cheap.”

The controversy began after the Telangana government requested Dosanjh to avoid performing songs that glorify alcohol and drugs during his Hyderabad concert. In response, he creatively altered his lyrics and announced similar adjustments for his Ahmedabad concert, respecting Gujarat’s dry-state laws.
