New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s electoral debut will set in motion from Thursday, November 28, with her oath-taking as a member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha scheduled to take place along with that of party leader Ravindra Vasantrao Chavan.

Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into the Lok Sabha follows her resounding victory in the Wayanad by-election, where she secured a margin of 410,931 votes. This seat was previously held by her brother, Rahul Gandhi, who vacated it after winning from both Wayanad and Rae Bareli in the 2024 general elections1. Rahul chose to retain Rae Bareli, leading to the by-election in Wayanad.

Priyanka joins her brother Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and her mother Sonia Gandhi, a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan. Her entry into Parliament is expected to invigorate the Congress party’s efforts to regain its political foothold.

In her victory speech, Priyanka Gandhi expressed gratitude to the voters of Wayanad and emphasized her commitment to addressing their concerns in Parliament. “I look forward to being your voice in Parliament and working tirelessly for the development of Wayanad,” she said.

This historic moment underscores the enduring influence of the Gandhi family in Indian politics and sets the stage for a new chapter in the Congress party’s journey.
