Lucknow: Top seed P V Sindhu secured a comfortable victory over the young Unnati Hooda to advance to the final of the Syed Modi India International, a BWF World Tour Super 300 tournament, in Lucknow on Saturday.
Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu overcame 17-year-old Hooda with scores of 21-12, and 21-9 in a 35-minute match. The 29-year-old Indian is set to face China’s Luo Yu Wu in the summit clash.
In the mixed doubles category, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto earned their place in the final following a 21-16, 21-15 win against China’s Zhou Zhi Hong and Yang Jia Yi. They will compete against the Thai pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran for the championship.
Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand advanced to the women’s doubles final after defeating Thailand’s Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard with scores of 18-21, 21-18, 21-10.
In an all-Indian men’s doubles semifinal, Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and K. Sai Pratheek triumphed over Ishaan Bhatnagar and Sankar Prasad Udayakumar with a scoreline of 21-17, 17-21, 21-16.
Later in the day, Tanisha is set to compete alongside Ashwini Ponnappa in the women’s doubles semifinals, while Lakshya Sen and Priyanshu Rajawat will participate in the men’s singles semifinals.
