Cuttack: A horrific hit-and-run incident took place on the Khan Nagar–Kathajodi river embankment road on Sunday. A speeding car allegedly hit a 70-year-old man sitting by the roadside, killing him on the spot.
The deceased has been identified as Joginath Sahu, a resident of Banki Kala Pathar area. He reportedly sat near the roadside every day to run his small trading business.
Following the incident, tension flared in the locality, and an irate crowd staged a road blockade demanding strict action. The blockade was later lifted after talks with the police.
Badambadi Police have seized the vehicle involved in the accident and detained the driver for questioning. Locals alleged that the car driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Police have launched an investigation into the case.
