Fire Breaks Out on Ship During Loading at Paradip Port

Paradip: A fire broke out on a cargo vessel at Paradip Port late last night, causing panic as thick smoke engulfed the surrounding area. The incident occurred on the Eco Colonel ship while thermal coal was being loaded at the Chennai Radha Berth.

According to reports, the fire ignited during the coal loading process. Thermal coal typically remains hot and is sprayed with water during loading to prevent ignition. However, it is suspected that water was not used during last night’s operation, leading to the accidental outbreak.

Following the incident, the vessel was shifted to the CQ-2 berth where the coal was unloaded to control the situation. The CISF fire unit promptly responded and brought the fire under control. No casualties have been reported so far. Port authorities are investigating the exact cause of the mishap.
