Family Alleges Faulty Surgery Led to Woman’s Death at Shree Jagannath Multi-Speciality Hospital

Jajpur: A woman from Dharamsala area of Jajpur district has reportedly died due to alleged medical negligence following a surgery at Shree Jagannath Multi-Speciality Hospital in Jarka. The victim’s son lodged a formal complaint at Dharamsala Police Station late on Monday night, accusing the hospital authorities and the attending doctor of conducting a faulty operation that led to her death. According to sources, Ranjita Pandit (45), wife of Gauri Pandit of Bhuban village under the same police limits, underwent surgery at the Jarka-based hospital on December 4 for the removal of stones detected in her uterus. After the procedure, she returned home but soon developed complications as her urine flow reportedly stopped completely. The family rushed her back to the hospital, where the attending doctor administered saline and assured them that the problem would subside. However, when her condition did not improve, the medical staff advised that she be shifted to Cuttack for further treatment. Her family members then took her to SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where she succumbed. The deceased woman’s husband, Gauri Pandit, and son, Himanshu Pandit, have alleged that improper surgical procedure and negligence by the hospital authorities directly caused her death. Following the complaint, police reached the hospital, seized the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Jajpur District Health Officer Dr. Bijay Kumar Mishra stated that an investigation will be conducted into the incident. Meanwhile, residents have alleged that similar cases of medical negligence have occurred at the same hospital multiple times, yet no stringent action has been taken by the authorities. The incident has triggered widespread concern, with demands rising for strict regulatory oversight and accountability in private healthcare facilities across the district.
