Jajpur: In a significant boost to inclusive sports and empowerment of persons with disabilities, the Jajpur District Para Sports Association has announced the organisation of the District-Level Para Athletics Meet–2026, scheduled to be held on Saturday, the 17th, at the Hajiramian Govt High School playground in Brahmabarada Gp under Rasulpur block. The event is expected to witness enthusiastic participation from differently abled sportspersons drawn from across the district.
The announcement was made during a press conference held at Vidya Group of Institutions, Sahapada village, where the President of the Jajpur District Para Sports Association, Mantu Das, outlined the objectives and scale of the event. Addressing mediapersons, he said the meet aims to provide a dignified and competitive platform for para-athletes to showcase their sporting abilities and to encourage wider participation of persons with disabilities in organised sports. According to Das, para-athletes in the age group of 14 to 40 years will be eligible to take part in the competitions. The meet will feature a wide range of athletic disciplines, including 100 metres, 200 metres and 400 metres sprint events, long jump and shot put, among others. These events have been carefully selected to ensure fair competition and to allow athletes with different categories of disabilities to demonstrate their strength, speed, skill and endurance. He further informed that the meet will not merely be a district-level sporting festival but will also serve as a selection platform for the State-Level Para Athletics Championship.
Athletes delivering outstanding performances in their respective events will be shortlisted to represent Jajpur district at the state level, giving them an opportunity to compete on a larger stage and advance their sporting careers. The organising committee, Das added, is making comprehensive arrangements to ensure safety, accessibility and transparency throughout the event. Special attention is being given to medical support, athlete assistance, proper officiating and fair conduct of competitions so that participants can compete in a secure and encouraging environment. Volunteers and officials will be deployed to assist athletes and ensure the smooth conduct of the meet.
The District Para Athletics Meet is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening confidence, self-belief and sportsmanship among differently abled athletes. It also reflects a growing commitment in Jajpur district to promote inclusive sports and recognise the immense potential of para-athletes.
